Two more news articles about Souvenir and Sue Swaney

Here's a nice piece from our friends at WFIU on Souvenir:

And here is a feature article from the Herald-Times (login required):

Hitting all the wrong notes

Some excerpts:

Singing badly is nothing new to Susan Swaney.

Although Swaney is known for singing quite well, she is accustomed to different styles of music including microtonal music, which can sound off-key to the casual listener.

But Swaney's appearance in Cardinal Stage Company's production of "Souvenir"
requires the normally perfectly pitched singer to hit a lot of wrong notes in the name of comedy.

"Sometimes I don't think, and let it fly high or ride low," Swaney said.

As trained singers, Swaney and costar Ray Fellman said they both have heard plenty of singers who get it wrong. It is from that type of inspiration that Swaney is able to find all the wrong ways to sing the songs from the play that centers around Florence Foster Jenkins.

Jenkins was a terrible soprano who hit the big time, eventually performing in Carnegie Hall.

Fellman plays Cosme McMoon, her accompanist.
